How To : Graphics Best Practices

When delivering your graphic assets, a little prep ensures each asset maintains its visual fidelity and is compatible with the A3D pipeline. Please choose the appropriate section below based on the type of asset your preparing.

Full screen assets should be prepared at the intended resolution that the screen will be displayed. All elements that will be displayed should also be prepared at the resolution that they will be displayed. Source files for each screen alongside a PDF export of each screen to insure visual fidelity are preferred.

For any additional assets being utilized by the app or site design, please also refer to the appropriate sections below.

  • Resolution: Landscape 1920x1080px or 3840x2160px for 4k displays, Portrait 1080x1920px or 2160×3840 for 4k displays
  • Preferred Formats: Layered source files, AI, PSD. Exported PDF alongside source file preferred to ensure font compatibility.
  • Other Compatible Formats: 2K INDD, PDF, XD
  • Minimal Viable Formats: 2K PNG preferred over JPG/GIF

Emails should be designed at 600px wide to ensure compatibility with a majority of modern web browsers. For more information, please see our Email Best Practices Guide.

  • Resolution: 600px wide
  • Preferred Formats: Layered source files, AI, PSD. Exported PDF alongside source file preferred to ensure font compatibility.
  • Other Compatible Formats: INDD, PDF, XD
  • Minimal Viable Formats: 600px wide PNG/JPG

For logos, icons, or technical drawings, vector source or EPS are highly preferred. This ensures that no matter the format the logo or other asset is being used, visual fidelity is upheld. When preparing these assets for the web, make sure the software you are using is set to RGB mode and not print friendly CMYK mode or colors may not render correctly on end displays.

  • Resolution: Vector preferred. If the file was not originally prepped as vector, please export assets at the highest possible resolution.
  • Preferred Formats: Layered source files, AI, PSD. Exported PDF alongside source file preferred to ensure font compatibility.
  • Other Compatible Formats: EPS, PDF, SVG
  • Minimal Viable Formats: Highest possible resolution PNG preferred over JPG/GIF

When utilizing photos and prerendered graphics, please send the original, uncropped version of the file if possible. This ensures that the A3D team can produce additional graphics using the source file for mobile optimization or for unique animations.

  • Resolution: Highest possible resolution preferred
  • Preferred Formats: PSD source, PNG
  • Other Compatible Formats: PDF, AI, RAW
  • Minimal Viable Formats: JPG, GIF, or WebM at highest possible resolution

Print media that will be displayed in a website or app should be prepared as if it will be seen as-is. This includes removing any crop lines, bleed, notes, or any other items that would normally be excluded during the printing process. Depending on the format, links inside of a PDF may not be clickable is the final product. PDFs prepared for print may also be in the CMYK color space and should be converted to RGB before delivery.

  • Resolution: Highest possible resolution preferred
  • Preferred Formats: PDF or source files preferred, print markings + bleed removed, RGB color space
  • Other Compatible Formats: PNG, PSD, AI, PNG
  • Minimal Viable Formats: JPG, GIF, WebM, highest possible resolution preferred

Depending on the needs of the project, our team may request additional assets utilized in the design. In general, if the asset can be prepared in a vector format, that is preferred. If not, ensure the asset is as close as possible to its original resolution. Depending on the graphical fidelity of the asset, we may be able to increase the resolution to match the needs of the project, but cannot guarantee this solution on all assets.
